High-efficiency froth flotation with a REFLUX™ Flotation Cell (RFC™)

The REFLUX™ Flotation Cell (RFC™) radically alters perceptions of froth flotation performance. It operates at extreme levels of gas and feed flux, and fluidisation wash water to deliver up to tenfold higher throughput, with enhanced grade and recovery, all with a smaller plant footprint.

Our REFLUX Flotation Cells

The RFC can be used for rougher, scavenger, and cleaner flotation applications, and for tailings reprocessing. Due to its high-capacity and low footprint, it is also easy to add into existing flotation systems as a flexible and lower-CAPEX solution to increase capacity and optimise flotation performance.

Enhancing Flotation Efficiency with the RFC

The high-sheer pre-contacting spargers and inclined channels allow operation under air-flooded conditions, delivering high operational gas flux rates while reducing bubble size. This increases the available bubble surface area flux by a factor of four compared to traditional flotation cells, significantly increasing collision and attachment rates. Contact between bubbles and floatable materials occurs in a high shear rate environment, elevating recovery rates. Recoveries are further enhanced by eliminating operation with a designated froth-pulp interface. Finally, the application of fluidisation water delivers highly effective counter-current washing and gangue rejection, producing a high-grade product.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs for the REFLUX Flotation Cell

The RFC works by improving the kinetics of flotation and effectiveness of bubble-liquid separation to maximise recovery of valuable materials and enhance the purity of the concentrate.

RFCs can be used for rougher, scavenger, cleaner flotation applications, and for tailings reprocessing, at existing flotation plants and greenfield developments.

RFCs can handle up to ten times the throughput of conventional flotation cells with a significantly smaller flotation call volume or footprint. They also significantly reduce energy, air, and wash water consumption.

Compared to column flotation cells, the RFC has shown much higher separation efficiency at over 70% reduction in footprint, 50% reduction in height, over 60% reduction in power, 50% reduction in wash water, and over 80% reduction in air. Compared to conventional flotation cells, RFC has shown better separation efficiency at over 65% reduction in footprint, 30% reduction in power, and over 60% reduction in air.
