Sizers

High-efficiency roll sizers for mining

When it comes to crushing and sizing materials, you need something reliable, efficient and effective. We’ve got you covered, with the ABON® Low Speed Sizer for large soft or sticky materials and the high-speed RollSizer for higher throughput applications. Both flexible, cost-effective and with minimal fines creation.

Key benefits of sizers

  • Flexible performance

As we know that no customer and their requirements are alike, our RollSizer is highly adaptable to your requirements and application. The standard model range includes 20 machines of various sizes and designs. The series is dividable into primary, secondary and tertiary sizers.

  • High-quality standards and easy maintenance

Designed and manufactured to high quality standards, our sizers are built to withstand the harsh conditions of the mining industry. Durable, reliable and offering high availability, the ABON® Sizer’s low roll speeds maximise wear life while the RollSizer is engineered for easy maintenance with adjustable crushing combs and replaceable crushing segments.

  • Reduced fines generation

By controlling the crushing process effectively, both the RollSizer and ABON® Low Speed Sizer minimise the production of fines, enhancing material handling and processing efficiency.

Our roll sizers

ABON Sizers

Throughout the world, ABON® Low Speed Sizers have been commissioned in Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Quaternary applications across the minerals range in low, medium and high tonnage applications to more than 12,000 tph In Pit Crushing Systems.

The ABON® Low Speed Sizer utilises a combination of low roll speed, high torque and our unique tooth profiles to produce a specified product to fit your needs. Feed material (either ROM or pre crushed) is accepted through the top of the crushing chamber, then drawn through rotating shafts laced with teeth, which reduce it to the specified product size.

The ABON® Sizer features:

  • Low roll speeds maximise wear life of consumable elements due to positive bite and minimal feed slip.
  • Sizing teeth are designed to slide into machined slots in the shaft, without the need to remove the shafts from the main frame.
  • Low roll speeds generate a minimum of fines, dust and dynamic loads.
  • Actual rotating tip speed of the tooth or sizing element in an ABON® Sizer can be as low as 0.8 m per sec (primary applications) and up to 1.8 m per sec (tertiary & quaternary applications).
  • Over 50 years of continuing research and development of our unique tooth profiles and materials enhance productivity and reduce costs for our customers.

Primary crushing with CenterSizers

For primary crushing, CenterSizers are in use, in which the comminution takes place in the gap between the rollers, which rotate towards the centre. By this working principle and the aggressively shaped teeth, it is possible to grip and process even big particles in the feed material.

CenterSizers can be equipped with an adjustable breaker bar to adjust the output grain size. The rollers are tipped with teeth, which are carrying exchangeable tooth pics made of wear resistant steel. The tooth pics are quickly and easily interchangeable to reduce the maintenance time to a minimum.

Secondary crushing with SideSizers

In secondary crushing SideSizers operate mostly, whereby the comminution takes place between the outward rotating rolls and the sidewalls, which are equipped with integrated crushing combs at the narrowest point of the gap. The crushing gap can be set by adjusting the sidewalls.

The crushing combs are arranged laterally and have an especially high wear volume. In case of wear, they are repeatedly re-adjustable from outside and in case one side wears out completely, they can be turned to use the second side. Due to their high wear volume, we achieve a long service life with low maintenance and spare parts requirements. Both rolls are equipped with replaceable crushing segments. These crushing segments are available for various applications in different variants and are quickly exchangeable.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs for sizers

A mining sizer is a type of crushing equipment used in mining operations to reduce large blocks of material into smaller, manageable sizes. Sizers typically operate at low speeds with two rotating shafts equipped with teeth that shear, crush, or break down material. They are effective for soft to medium-hard ores like coal, oil sands, and phosphate, with a focus on producing uniform particle sizes and minimising fines.

A mining sizer uses low-speed rotating shafts with teeth to shear and break down softer materials like coal or oil sands, producing fewer fines and handling sticky or abrasive materials well. In contrast, a double roll crusher operates at higher speeds with two counter-rotating rolls that crush harder materials through compression, providing finer output but generating more fines. The key differences are in their crushing mechanisms, material suitability, and fines production.
