A rotary kiln is a cylindrical, rotating, inclined furnace used for high-temperature processing of materials. Key components include the shell, refractory lining, support tyres (riding rings), rollers, drive gear, and internal heat exchanges.

Rotary kilns are used in the thermal treatment of ores and minerals. Common applications include calcination of bauxite to produce alumina, roasting of sulphide ores and spodumene before metal extraction, reduction of iron pellets and chromite, drying mineral ores, and regenerating activated carbon for use in gold recovery.

FLS rotary kilns can handle a wide range of materials, including alumina, bauxite, catalyst, clay, dolomite, diatomaceous earth, ferro-nickel/ferro chrome, iron ore, ilmenite, lightweight aggregate, limestone, magnesite, petroleum coke, phosphates, rare earth elements, soda ash, spodumene, trona, and vanadium salts.
