Key benefits of mill liners

  • Longer wear life, improved grinding, higher throughput

More durable liner materials, including KP30 alloy delivering up to 15% longer wear life, maintain designed charge motion for longer periods, helping sustain grinding efficiency and throughput between change-outs.

  • Lower cost per tonne through extended service intervals

Up to 30% longer liner wear life with ARMOUR® vertical mill liners reduces the frequency of liner change-outs, lowering liner consumption, maintenance labour and downtime per tonne processed, and delivering a measurable reduction in total cost per tonne.

  • Improved mill reliability and safer maintenance

ARMOUR® mill liners deliver longer, more predictable liner life reduces the number of intrusive maintenance events and emergency interventions, supporting higher mill availability and safer, more controlled maintenance planning.

Innovative alloys

FLS latest development, KP30 alloy, is a next-generation casting alloy specifically designed to handle harsh milling conditions. Its engineered balance of hardness and toughness withstands high-energy impacts and severe abrasion inside the mill, extending liner life and stabilising wear. Customers gain more reliable campaigns, safer relines and tighter control of availability and cost-per-tonne.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs for mill liners

A mill liner lines the inside of a grinding mill, protecting the mill shell and internal components from wear caused by the grinding media, ore and slurry. In horizontal mills (ball, SAG, AG), liners protect against high-energy impact and abrasion. In vertical stirred grinding mills, liners protect the shell and agitator/screw components from fine-grind abrasion and maintain the critical agitator-to-shell clearance that drives grinding performance.

You can choose from rubber, steel or composite ARMOUR® mill linings for ball mills. Our experts will be happy to advise on the best mill liner for your application.

Most commonly, steel or composite mill liners are used in SAG mills. Our experts will be happy to advise on the best mill liner solution for your SAG mill application.

Mill liners for mining applications are used in ball mills, SAG mills, AG mills and vertical stirred grinding mills to protect the mill structure from wear and maintain grinding performance. Liners can be constructed from steel, rubber or composite material depending on the mill type, ore characteristics and operational objectives. ARMOUR® liners are available for both horizontal and vertical grinding mill applications.

Yes, FLS ARMOUR® mill liners are now available for vertical grinding mills across a wide range of OEM designs used in fine-grind and regrind circuits. ARMOUR® vertical mill liner kits are engineered as drop-in replacements, delivering up to 30% longer wear life in suitable applications and maintaining consistent grinding performance throughout the wear cycle. Contact our experts to discuss your vertical mill liner requirements.

Yes, ARMOUR® vertical mill liners are reverse-engineered for drop-in compatibility across a range of mill OEM designs. No mechanical modification is required. Operators can evaluate ARMOUR® on a single cycle, with FLS providing pre- and post-trial wear analysis to document the performance improvement.
