  • Low specific energy consumption

    Mixing a dilute quantity of fine material into a high-temperature air stream dries or heats the material in seconds, rather than the minutes it takes in other processes, resulting in significantly lower energy consumption. Flue gas recirculation also recuperates process heat from waste gas, improving energy efficiency and lowering fuel consumption.

  • Consistent operation and product

    A simple burner and control system automatically adjusts the temperature to changes in feed moisture, holding to within ±5°C. As there is never a large quantity of material resident in the system, the response is almost instant, providing consistent operation and product moisture.

  • Very low maintenance

    A FLS flash dryers contain no moving parts, resulting in minimal maintenance requirements and considerably lower OPEX than other drying/heating technologies.

Our flash dryers

FLS flash dryers/heaters use gas suspension drying (GSD) technology to various fine materials. Offering throughputs between ≤1.0tph up to ≥750tph, our dryers can operate as stand-alone solutions or as an integrated system with other pyro-equipment, such as rotary kilns, indirectly heated rotary kilns, gas suspension calciners, or multiple heath furnaces, to improve overall efficiency. We can accommodate a wide range of fuels, including hydrogen firing, and can include an optional back mixer to adjust final product moisture.

Maintenance & service of our flash dryers

FLS is your single-source supplier of pyroprocessing equipment and systems. Our in-house test centre is home to a wide range of test and pilot-scale equipment, allowing us to simulate complete processes and ensure the best possible system design and equipment selection. Various analysis options are available at the test centre, providing rapid results to support your test campaign.

FAQs for flash dryers and flash heaters

Fine material is introduced above the gas suspension dryer venturi, where it is entrained in hot gases and dries in seconds. A cyclone separates dried particles from the spent gas, which is dedusted in a dust collector. Cyclone and dust collector underflow exit the system as product.

Our flash dryers can handle a wide range of fine materials, such as potash, phosphate, limestone fines, alumina, trona, clays, talc, and other mineral products.

Flash dryers/heaters offer higher thermal efficiency, more compact design, lower maintenance, and greater feed versatility. The rapidity of drying/heating also eliminates overheating, preventing product degradation and maintaining product quality. Flash dryers/heaters are thus a much more cost-effective solution to processing fine materials that alternatives.
