Key benefits of our DeSanders

  • Simple but effective separation

Our DeSanders feature a compact design that effectively reduces capital and installation costs. Operating with no moving parts, they deliver efficient separation while consuming minimal power.

  • Wear resistant, fine particle separation

Tailored to your specific application, we offer various wear lining options: unlined units, units lined with vulcanized gum rubber, or units with replaceable gum rubber liners. For abrasive applications, we recommend units with replaceable liners, while for non-abrasive applications, we suggest units with vulcanized lining or no lining.

  • Versatile and customisable

All our DeSander units may be mounted horizontally, vertically, or at any angle in between. They are available in various sizes with different internal fittings to fully optimise your performance. We use computer simulation, based on field and lab testing, to accurately predict DeSander performance, eliminating the need for onsite testing while giving you confidence in unit selection and design.

KCSS DeSanders

Commonly used in industrial and automotive separation operations, the KCSS DeSander features a feed entry that pre-classifies sand before it enters the cylindrical section. This design ensures the sand particles enter the cylinder with a smooth flow pattern along the wall, minimizing turbulence and ricocheting solids particles that occur in conventionally fed cyclones. The energy is effectively converted to centrifugal force, resulting in very little wear on the accumulator tank and internal surfaces of the unit, ensuring its durability.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs for DeSander hydrocyclones

Slurry containing suspended sand or grit is introduced into the unit via a tangential inlet designed to generate a vortex action. As the liquid swirls inward, sand is pushed outward towards the cylinder wall due to extremely high centrifugal forces. All DeSanders contain an internal cone section that increases the rotational velocity of the water, resulting in higher centrifugal forces. As the diameter of the cone decreases, the acceleration increases, leading to a finer separation and the removal of more solids. Sand particles follow a spiral path towards the bottom of the cone, where they are discharged into an accumulator tank for collection. The liquid exits the separator from the overflow at the top.

KCSS and KD/KS DeSanders are used in various applications. They are ideal for potable water treatment, cooling tower water treatment, and other industrial applications.

Our KCSS, KD and KS DeSanders come in a wide range of sizes, from 51–1270mm (2–50in.) in diameter, as measured at the cylinder section. Different internal fittings optimise your unit’s performance for your unique application. All models are flanged for inspection and wear parts replacement.

Our DeSander units are designed to operate efficiently at any angle, including fully horizontal or vertical positions. The horizontal units are relatively low to the ground and easy to conceal, which makes them a popular option for residential neighbourhoods. The water outlet can be positioned either at the centre of the unit top or tangentially. Additionally, we offer units with clockwise or counterclockwise rotation to facilitate easy installation regardless of your piping configuration.

We use carbon steel as our standard construction material, but our DeSanders may be built to any specification and from any alloy to meet your requirements, including units built to ASME code section VIII, division I specifications. We offer unlined units, units lined with vulcanized gum rubber or with replaceable gum rubber or ceramic. Regardless of your application, budget constraints, and wear life preferences, we have you covered.

Yes! Our DeSanders are simple to operate due to their lack of moving parts.
